5 Reasons Why I like DestroyTwitter more then TweetDeck

dt-vs-td

This is the first of this kinda of topic, at least for me anyways. But I’m going to share with you 5 reasons why i like/think DestoryTwitter is better then TweetDeck.

desktop

First reason and number 1 (at least for me), Desktop realestate. DestoryTwitter takes up less space on the screen because it uses a slightly smaller font, the tweeters avatars are smaller and there is no unneeded padding around the borders. See the picture to the right.

Second and probably more important then the first, Memory usage. I’ve had DestoryTwitter open for at least the past 24 hours, or more, and its memory usage is barely above 50mb of memory usage. So far iv had TweetDeck open about half an hour, open a few windows did a couple things, and its already up to 100mb.

The third reason is the replies, Direct messages, groups and search tabs on DestoryTwitter are always active. You can easily swap from one to another, with just one click. In TweetDeck you’d have to open a new column and scroll over to it. I also assume that every time you open a new tab it uses up a API call.

Number four is the ability to filter the home tab. I assume you could do this with groups on TweetDeck just fine but your home tab would still get swamped with tweets and possibly fill up memory. You can filter it to only include a set of users and keywords or exclude users and keywords. Very useful for filtering out any tweet. For example tweets that have the tag #spymaster?

Last and not least is my number five reason. In DestroyTwitter, when you click on a #tag link, it will pull up a search tab in the app. When i tried this in TweetDeck, it opened my browser and went to twitters search page.

For me looks are more importatnt to me then feartures. So just give it a try you might like it as much as i do.

Extra Notes:

Please forgive me if my assumptions are wrong about TweetDeck of if there is a preference i may have over looked.

These are just my thought at this time, my feelings could change, or the apps may change and effect my feelings.

I would also like to note that having two twitter apps runing at the same time isnt a good idea. They are both using up your presious API calls, and they will disapear very quickly ;-) .

The above images were both made using the web app Pixlr.

  1. I do, also, enjoy DestroyTwitter for the same reasons. I also think that DT’s theming options are much better than TweetDeck’s. With DT, you have to select each color, as with DT, you can go online and browse through the gobs of themes and simply download the theme file.

    Excellent post,

    David

  2. DestroyTwitter is the shit. Hands down.

  3. Hey nice comparison.
    Just a few comments:
    1. yeah i like how small you can make destroy, but the only problem is when your following over 200 people, 1 feed just isnt enough to keep track.
    2. COMPLETELY AGREE. Deck uses WAY too much memory :(
    3. I see this Destroy as the bad one on this, I want to be able to view all my groups and replies and dms without having to swap out.
    4. As you said this can be solved by creating a group
    5. You can also do this on Deck, although by default it is disabled as it requires a call back to the API, and each 3rd party program is only allowed 100 API calls per hour, so I would rather the #tag open using the web’s search function.

You have brought up some vaild problems with tweetdeck, but in saying that I will be one of the first to move over to destroy once you can show multiple groups at a time.

  4. Twitter is lame anyway

  5. @Ash The Search API doesn’t use any calls :)

  6. I’m a big fan of DestroyTwitter, and I’ve been using it now for about a month as my main Twitter client. I actually made a side by side comparison of the top eight clients plus the Twitter website and the TwitterFox Firefox add-on. Unfortunately it’s in Spanish, but I guess you could benefit from it. I have a feature-table for all the ten reviewed ways to tweet plus mention to other six clients to be considered.

    Here’s the link: http://40limones.com/index.php/2009/05/el-cliente-perfecto-de-twitter/

PLEASE NOTE: If you dare to visit my blog, please BE PATIENT… I’m running it on a extremely crowded shared hosting, and it takes AGES to load (but I truly think it’s worth it). I’m planning to migrate it in the next few days.

A final word: The single most useful feature DestroyTwitter has (and it’s unique until now) is the Away mode, which pauses all your timelines while you’re away from your computer, or just want to take a break from your twitter-filled life… :)

  7. @Jonnie yea thats why i put it on my list.

@Darío Martínez Batlle kool, ill take a look at that. (http://www.google.com/language_tools FTW) You should look into http://justhost.com said to be the “best host”.

  8. Thanks for the mention of JustHost. I’m just waiting a few more days to switch. BlueHost, LunarPages and JustHost seem to be pretty good all of them.

  9. LOVE DestroyTwitter! Only wish it supports multiple accounts.
