My WoW Map

wowmapFor the last month or so, iv been working on a project that utilizes the Google Maps API to make a map from the mini map images in World of Warcraft. There are a couple other other sites that do the exact same thing that im trying to do. MapWoW.com and Wyrimaps.net/wow.

The main reason for me doing this project is because, if you go to Mapwow.com youll see there are ALOT of ads (mostly gold seller ads). And i wanted a site just the same but with out all the damn gold seller adds. And i also wanted a new project to keep me busy and not so bored. Its also a good learning experience for me ( if i remember the stuff i learn :P )

I’v got alot of ideas for things to do to this map and i hope to be able to do them.

Also just be aware that this is my live code, there is no production site. So you might come by and it not working. Most likely it is because im currently working on it, but dont worry about sending me a email about a problem you encounter or even missing marker for that set. Also take a look at my code, and if youve got any suggestions, dont hesitate to email me. Enjoy.

WoW Armory Uses jQuery

WoWArmory-JqueryI just happend to be pocking around looking at the soruce code of the World of Warcraft Armory and i noticed something. Blizzard is using jQuery to help out.

I know jquery is one of the bets frameworks to base your javascript off, but what caught me off guard is that blizzard would use it. I assumed (yea i know assuming is bad) that blizzard would want to write their own code.

So its kinda kool knowing that jQuery is big enough for blizzard notice and use on the armory.

How i got the name Gizzmo

I dont think iv ever made a post about how i got my nickname (Gizzmo, Justgiz) whether it be here, or on a past blog. So i feel like its a good idea for a post.

The story of how i got the name gizzmo is a weird one. Its not because im good with gadgets, or good with making stuff. When i was in my early teens, there was a chat program i used alot called “The Palace” (wow the website really brings back the memories) and my friends and i chatted on there alot.

The admin/moderators were called “Wizzards”, and since I had the name Whizkarz, everyone kept asking if i was a wizzard. So after about the tenth person to ask me, i asked my friends: “Ok i really need a new nickname, anyone got any ideas”. One of my friends suggested the name gizzmo, not for any reason other then she has a friend with a dog named gizzmo.

So yea thats how i came to be known as Gizzmo.

The name “Justgiz” came along when i was wanting to get my website. I had to think of a .com address and the only thing i could think of was Justgizzmo.com, because a friend had the address JustAndrew.com. Well when i signed up and was given my user name, it was my domain name cut down to 7 characters. So my email was justgiz@justgizzmo.com.

I later when i moved to Gmail.com i kept it and since then iv been using those two names for everything i sign up for. Preferably Gizzmo.

Stargate Univers Trailer

Apparently there is a section at Comic-con for Stargate (tv show are comics?) Well this year they aired the full trailer for Stargate Universe. This is alot more from the other video they aired earlier this year on SyFy (yea they changed the spelling of their name). A lot more on whats gonna happen, and its longer. Take a look. I cant wait till October 2nd.

New site theme

Iv used the last one for, uh.. well since i stared my blog back up several months ago. I try look for a wordpress theme about once or twice a month, spending all day doing it, and i never find one that im content with. So i found one that i liked, and thought was ok, and said to my self, “You are going to use this one and like it.”

So as you can tell this is the new theme i picked out, hopefully it will stay for a while. I guess im just really anal about the theme, and i dont know if i ll ever be happy with it. Oh well.
